Mid Sussex Active organise and support a wide-ranging programme of school events covering competitive, non-competitive and inclusive sports.
Level 0 competitions focus on personal challenges – can I beat my score? These are excellent activities for breaks and lunch times as well as PE lessons. We support the schools through our Sport Crew training to deliver this level of competition.
Level 1 intra-school competitions are a sporting activity taking place between pupils who attend the same school. For example, this can be in the form of an inter-class or house activity. These competitions should culminate in an annual School Games Day, or Sports Day, to celebrate a school’s sporting success. We support our schools to deliver an ever-increasing number of level 1 competitions through our work with Sports Crew and also our Sport Specific CPD.
A local inter-school competition is a sporting activity taking place between schools from the same area – either as a one-off event or as part of a league. These competitions may act as qualifiers for county finals or can be run as developmental competitions or festival events to meet the needs of a local area. Our Leadership Academy and secondary sports leaders are instrumental in ensuring the success of all our level 2 events.
Pathway Competition – In Mid Sussex we provide our schools with 2 levels of pathway competition. The first is linked to our hub secondary schools, the winning schools from these local events then progress through to our Mid Sussex finals. The subsequent winner then goes on to represent Mid Sussex at the Sussex Finals (Level 3 event). Where possible these events are supported by the governing body and/ or local sports clubs.
Development competition – A development event is a local inter-school event which is aimed at broadening provision based on the local need. In Mid Sussex these festivals can include children from KS 1 and KS2 cover a wide variety of sports. Where possible these events are supported by the governing body and/ or local sports clubs.
A county final is a showcase event held either as the culmination of a series of local inter-school competitions or as open entry events. Both our Leadership Academy and Young Coach Academy are involved in the running and officiating of these level 3 events.
A festival event is a local inter-school event which includes a multi-sport competition and/or non-School Games sports or formats. Festivals are aimed at offering the children a chance to try different sports and again, where possible, are supported by the governing body and/ or local sports clubs. Again, our Leadership Academy and secondary sports leaders are instrumental in ensuring the success of all our festivals.
